Concluding our look at the development of the Custom Otto™, we’re proud to unveil the first production model of the car! It makes its debut as the 2008 New York Toy Fair car -- 40 years after Otto Kuhni’s art first appeared on the original Hot Wheels® blister card! Much debate and discussion went into how the car should look for this edition - with valid arguments made on both sides. Should it look like Otto’s original rendition in blue, or should it be red as in Larry Wood’s “Lost Redline®” artwork? Should it have original Redline®-era style wheels, or should it sport Real Riders® wheels (which is a tradition for Toy Fair cars)? Ultimately, a red paint scheme and Real Riders® wheels were decided upon, since this incarnation of the car would only be easily attainable by those lucky few who toured the Mattel showroom at Toy Fair. After all, the most accurate version should be available to the collector faithful, for whom the car was designed -- and it will be. Stay tuned…
