The sleek little Fastback was originally introduced in 1961 to expand Volkswagen's offerings beyond the basic Beetle, Karmann Ghia, and Bus, but it didn’t make its US debut until the 1966 model year. By 1973, production was kaput, and the Golf took its place.
Then in 2008, designer Phil Riehlman set his creative mind to bringing the Fastback to Hot Wheels®, and it was given another chance at life in our 2008 New Models lineup. Now, it’s back in a very special treatment just for this Toys ’R’ Us promotion! Painted in a rockin’ red base then covered in flames, it sports the classic Hot Wheels® logo on its rear spoiler along with five-spoke Real Rider® wheels.
Our special Volkswagen Fastback is packaged on a blister card that calls out “Collector Edition” and comes in a Kar Keepers™ clamshell. Want to add one to your collection? Just follow the instructions below (but please read the Official Rules for full details), and we’ll send one your way. - Buy 20 selected 1:64 scale Hot Wheels® basic cars at a participating Toys 'R' Us location from July 11, 2009, to August 31, 2009. Cars must be from the SKU numbers listed on the OFFICIAL RULES.
- Mail the original cash register receipt(s), 20 blister cards (the entire cardboard piece, but not the car or plastic window) for each vehicle you order (limit of ten vehicles per household), and the COMPLETED ORDER FORM (fill out the form and print it), along with $3.00 US shipping and processing for each vehicle you order (check or money order only, made payable to MATTEL) to:
